Colorado Rolling Mammoth vs DU

On Thursday, November 12th, the Colorado Rolling Mammoth wheelchair lacrosse team scrimmaged against the reigning National Champions University of Denver Pioneers. The Pioneers had over 40 players come out to get into wheelchairs and try their hands at wheelchair lacrosse.

The game started out fast. Daniel Hersh from the Rolling Mammoth won the face-off went right to the goal and scored. 32 seconds later, the University of Denver performed the same task making the score a 1 to 1 in the first minute. Once the precident had been set, Daniel went on a scoring frenzy and scored the next 5 goals to make the score 6 to 1 after 2 quarters. Kendall Posey played goalie for the Rolling Mammoth for the first 2 quarters making six excellent saves.

The Pioneers changed their lineup every quarter (which is why we played 5 quarters). Their third lineup had their most successful scoring opportunities in that they scored 2 goals. This quarter also provided scoring opportunities for the Rob Lynn and Ryan Tinker for the Rolling Mammoth.

John Vcelka from the Rolling Mammoth played defense for four quarters. He actually had a pretty easy night since the Pioneers rarely got to go on offense. In the third quarter, Chris Brock took to the goal and played out the game. Abbi Hill, Ben Coon, Parker Wilson, and Scotty Hanley filled out the rest of the Rolling Mammoth roster.

After the 5th quarter, the score was 10 to 5 favoring the Rolling Mammoth. Scoring numbers totaled six for Daniel Hersh, 2 each for Rob Lynn and Ryan Tinker.

We would like to thank the University of Denver Pioneers, the Colorado Mammoth, Colorado Adaptive Sports Foundation, and all the people who came out to support this event. The donations at the door and the silent auction raised a great sum of money to help promote adaptive sports and wheelchair lacrosse in Colorado. We would also like to thank the Rolling Nuggets, Craig Hospital, and Invacare/Top End for loaning us sport wheelchairs for the event and Elizabeth Conrad-Posey for taking these awesome pictures.

Our next scrimmage is against Valor Christian High School on December 10th at Rocky Mountain Inline Hockey in Lakewood.
